Lower Trent Conservation

Lower Trent Conservation is a community-based environmental protection agency established in 1968 under the Conservation Authorities Act by local municipalities. We work closely with municipal, provincial and federal government partners, landowners and community groups to conserve, restore and manage the natural resources. Encompassing 2,100 square kilometres, the Lower Trent Conservation watershed region stretches from Grafton to Quinte West.  It includes the Trent River which flows from Rice Lake to the Bay of Quinte at Trenton, and eight main tributaries along with a number of smaller watercourses that flow directly into Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte.

Residents are encouraged to contact Lower Trent Conservation regarding a variety of environmental services including:

  • Obtaining a permit for construction activities adjacent to any waterway or wetland
  • Environmental land use planning
  • Advice and financial assistance for tree planting, shoreline naturalization and other land stewardship activities
  • Water quality monitoring
  • Outdoor recreation opportunities
  • Environmental education events and activities
  • Flood forecasting & protection works
  • Volunteering
  • Management of conservation and natural areas
